After painting quite a few works that had darker tones, I was inspired to try something lighter, so I turned to the light blues and whites. The colors became stratified, perhaps like layers of earth or sky, which became a theme for future paintings. In my studio area I had a photocopy of scripture verses that I first worked with on a commission for a regional church. I was compelled to add these verses to the painting. They are mirror-image to the viewer, or, perhaps, best legible from inside the painting. The universal themes of life, death, and resurrection remain compelling to me.
