Artist Statement
I’m a New England artist working in various mediums, including acrylic abstract painting, as well as nature photography and more. I’m very happy to be moving from Vermont back to Maine, where I’m eager to see how a new home near the coast will inspire my evolution as an artist.
Previously, I was inspired by the beautiful landscapes of southern Vermont that surrounded our home, and I worked to depict the emotions that arise in that wild yet gentle place. For my current body of work, I paint intuitively, using acrylic paint and inks on canvas or paper. Most of my paintings take inspiration from the natural world, and I often find myself at the intersection of nature and emotion.
Most of my work could be described as improvised, barely-guided chaos, which is how I often find life in general, and I attempt to visually express the unsayable and even unknowable.
I have recently been enhancing many of my paintings with Augmented Reality (AR) experiences. This is an exciting new genre that adds interactivity to the gallery experience as well as a layer of artist interpretation. Find out more about my work with AR here.
I have been a photographer since I was young, and my favorite photographs over the years are also nature-based and semi-abstract. You can see some of my photos here. I have also enjoyed drawing fish and birds since I was young. You can see some recent nature drawings here. As began my journey with paint and canvas, both of these long-running instincts came forward.
I hope my work might inspire you to marvel at the beauty and mystery of the world, as well as experience a range of emotions that make up the vibrancy of humanity.
